Crashworthiness

In some car accidents, the issue may be that the car’s structure or safety systems such as seatbelts, airbags and seats, did not protect you sufficiently enough such that the injuries you received in the accident were worse than they should have been. This is referred to generally as a crashworthiness case. Craig has defended car companies for many years on issues of crashworthiness such as claims of defective seat belts, airbag systems, seats, fuel tank protection. He is now using all that information he learned in defending car companies on these types of cases in representing injured consumers who expected their car to protect them in a car accident, but instead were left significantly injured or worse, dead due to the defective design of a safety system in the car. The potential claims of defect in the car which Craig has addressed in litigation for both car companies and injured consumers include the following:

  • Defective seatbelt systems

  • Defective airbag systems

  • Defective roofs which crushed excessively during a rollover type accident

  • Defective fuel tank systems leading to a fire

  • Defective seat system which collapses during an accident

  • Defective door lock systems which allow the door to open during an accident
